One of the questions that a lot of 4x4 drivers are commonly asked is why do you need such a big car? The answer is that they're safer. This may be true for the occupants and is understandably a big reason for people with families driving to school every day.
However, many of these people don't realize that these cars are among the worst for pedestrian safety. Do we really want a concentration of these cars around our schools where there is a great potential for accidents. The newest Jeep Grand Cherokee recently scored zero stars in the NCAP safety tests for pedestrians, this means that a pedestrian would receive much greater injuries compared to a Citroen C6 that achieved the maximum score of 4 stars.
We know that parents want to keep their children safe, but please consider other people's families as well when you're choosing your next vehicle. There's nothing to say you can't have a 4x4 that isn't pedestrian friendly to some degree.
