Most of the A-list Hollywood set's cars can be found on 'Super Trumps' cards the world over. With that much disposable income, and garages the size of Wyoming to fill, stars of the screen could lose hours of 'my time' between takes or read-through's comparing performance figures; and calling their equally well-endowed but vacuous opponents bluff over the fascinating subject of torque, or brake horse power. Desperately trying to remember how fast their Ferrari goes down Sunset Boulevard. Or just how many inches to the gallon their SUV's get. All in a days work for the movie glitterati.

Not so if you're Thandie Newton however. For a start the new Bond girl's form of transport that shuttles her from film set, to beauty parlour, to gym, etc - cannot be found on any Top Trump cards I've ever played with. Not even the 'classics' version, that an ex-boyfriend envisaged was tantamount to foreplay. Whatsmore, the 33 year olds choice of 'ride' might look slightly, how can I put it, out of place on the set of the upcoming 007 flick - 'Casino Royale'.

Thandie is just one of a number of high profile stars to jump on the green bandwagon of late, where she finds herself in good company. Tucked in behind a floating zoo constructed by some chap called Noah a few years back.

Its pretty much fair to say that most of those checking out of the Betty Ford clinic won't be walking in a straight line toward a car that is 70% recyclable, yet with CO2 emission of just 104g/km, the Prius releases less than one third of the smog that SUV owning stars of the silver screen manage to direct toward the heavens. This fact hasn't be lost out on the raven-haired 'Crash' star, and newly-enthusiastic convert to the Prius; a car that thanks to a fuel consumption of 65.7mpg, will sees her save roughly £1500 per year. And being a struggling actress in Hollywood , reliant on bar jobs that's an important factor. She traded in her log-burning BMW X5 for the not so glamorous Toyota after succumbing to unwashed people in brightly coloured scarves from Greenpeace, who slapped a sticker on the bonnet of it, sensationally accusing Twiglet-thin Newton of being single-handedly responsible for global warming. Although not the fashion-conscious activists daywear reassuringly.

The Penzance-raised actress felt so ashamed when confronted with the facts that her beloved BMW emitted twice its own 2.5 tonne weight every 12,000 miles, she was compelled, like any millionaire actress, to head straight for her nearest Toyota retailer.

Now I'd pay good money to see that happen. Still, with a role model like Thandie signed up to Toyotas commission scheme, it will only be a matter of time before they're firing out of those dealership up and down the west coast.
