Uninsured Drivers Could Face Prison

Ministers are considering drafting news laws that would send uninsured drivers to prison in an effort to combat the rising number of uninsured motorists.

Magistrates are to be given more power to impose stiffer fines and would also be able to order offenders to carry out community service or serve a custodial sentence. At the moment 250,000 motorists are caught every year without insurance and the average fine is just £200, with the average insurance cost well above that these people think it is worth taking the chance.

Unfortunately these people do not seem to grasp the real reason for insurance, the main purpose of car insurance is not to cover your car; it is to cover third parties. If someone is injured through your actions and they require care for the rest of their lives, your car insurance will cover you, if you don't have car insurance you'll find yourself in a world of trouble.

Police will be using automatic cameras mounted in their cars that are linked to a centralised database that will tell them whether that car currently has insurance.

The benefits of insurance are often over shadowed by a simple price tag, we intend to attempt to redress this issue as many people would understand the need for insurance if they could see what the benefits were.
