Women Approve Of Anti Speeding Car

New plans unveiled to try and help curb the speeding problem on the UK's roads have been met with mixed responses by the surveyed public. The plans are to install a device to your car that can directly inhibit the driver from breaking the speed limit on a stretch of road.

The device works with the aid of a satellite positioning system which is connected to an electronic road map database. This positioning system can precisely pin point your location and relay the speed limit of the road you are on to a computer fitted into the car. This computer then monitors your speed on that stretch of road. If you exceed the limit then the computer acts in three ways.

Firstly the driver will hear a loud beeping sound in the car which is designed to warn the driver that they are exceeding the speed limit. The second action (that may; in the end be combined with the first) will vibrate the accelerator pedal of the car in an attempt to warn the driver of their infringement. The third and final action is to automatically apply the brakes to the car, if steps one and two are ignored, therefore bringing the cars speed down to that of the speed limit.

These devices are currently being tested in the UK and suggestions are that there is a trend swaying towards legislation to make these devices compulsory on all cars if the tests are successful.

The conspiracy theories behind this new device are endless with your cars position being tracked at all times and the scope for being able to automatically fine drivers whenever they exceed the speed limit.

The reality behind the device is that it could put an end to speeding on the roads all together. Out of people surveyed nearly 50% of women agreed that this would be an effective way to help curb speeding on the UK roads compared to 40% of men. This is not surprising considering that women tend to speed less than men and contribute to less than 20% of speeding convictions every year.

The fact is this may seem like advanced technology but we are quickly becoming a very advanced nation; this technology is here now and could be fitted into new cars as early as next year.

The bonus behind the plans would be that car insurance would surely come down with the eradication of speeding. The fact that women's car insurance is so much cheaper than men's could be directly linked to the fact that they seem to stay within the speed limits. This speed limiter device could make cheap womens car insurance not only a reality for women but for all motorists with the incapability to speeding on the UK roads.
